There are always lots of cool art exhibitions in London, whenever you decide to step foot outside the house. There are many more free art galleries than you could imagine, even if what we decide to visit are most often the famous landmarks in London and its museums. And the Shoreditch and Brick Lane London street art, of course.

London is arguably one of the best cities for art exhibitions in the world. We have some of the best museums, from old-fashioned art to modern and abstract art. Not only that, but we are always having so many pop-ups and new exhibitions, which are some of my favorite cheap things to visit in London, and some of them are even free exhibitions.
Unfortunately, lots of museums were closed last year because of Covid, but this is great news for you because now some of the world’s most amazing art exhibitions have come to London! Here I will tell you about the best art exhibitions in London now for all tastes. You’re bound to dream in any of them, whether you decide to get a ticket to the Alice Curiouser and Curiouser exhibition, or the Van Gogh Immersive Experience.

London Art Exhibitions: Van Gogh Immersive Experience
There are usually lots of art exhibitions in east London, but so far this is my favorite. Everyone is familiar with the famous artwork of Vincent Van Gogh but here you will see it in a much more exciting way. This famous London art exhibition has traveled all over the world, from Tokyo to Paris, and everyone loves it! On the inside, you will start by going into an interactive museum where you can learn and read more about Van Gogh, his life, and his artworks.
After this is when the real magic happens. This exhibition is located in a warehouse so once you enter the final room, you can lie on a rug, or on a lovely deck chair that has his famous Starry Night painting on it. All around you the artwork of Van Gogh will be projected onto the walls accompanied by beautiful music, and sparkling stars on the ceiling. In my opinion, immersion is the best way to appreciate famous artwork and this is also the coolest art exhibition in London at the moment.

Yayoi Kusama, Infinity Mirror Rooms
This is definitely the best art exhibition in London in 2021. Just like the Van Gogh exhibition, the Yayoi Kusama one has traveled around the world – there is no doubt you will have seen incredible photos of this art exhibition on Instagram! This artist is so famous because she has many different rooms in her exhibitions, each one filled with sparkling stars, mirrors, water, or endless spotted pumpkins.
You will be able to wander through the exhibition, taking photos and admiring all the detail that she made in creating such amazing reflective spaces. As this is such a famous art event, it is also very popular so tickets are quite hard to get. More tickets will be released in December so make sure to set your calendar – this is some artwork you will never forget!
There might be lots of independent art galleries in London, but the Tate definitely has some of the best art exhibitions. Nearby on the river, you can also find the Dali Museum, so your day is sure to be filled with art if you go here.

Best London Art Exhibitions: Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel Experience
You might know by now that I spend half of my time in London, and half of my time in Rome, Italy. As such, I could only choose the Sistine Chapel projection as part of the best new exhibitions in London. I love Italian art, and well, if you can get it in a colder city, why not?
It seems the first three art exhibitions are all-immersive, but in my opinion, this is the best thing we have created for art in 2021 – the ability to walk around surrounded by art collections. Michelangelo was one of the greatest artists of all time; he created the beautiful Sistine Chapel in Rome and the famous Statue of David which is now in Florence.
In this particular London art exhibition, his Sistine Chapel is projected all around you and you can walk beside and underneath his art – it is truly spectacular if you love classic art. If you cannot afford to go to Rome, then this is the next best thing! This is also a great place to take kids to help them appreciate art and make it more exciting, or for a cute and arty date during the day. This is definitely one of the cool art exhibitions London has going on right now, and I’d say it is unmissable.

Banksy Exhibition London: The Art of Banksy
Banksy is one of the most famous artists of the 21st Century. He is famous for creating funny and political artwork in graffiti in different places in the UK, and around the world. But the most interesting thing about this artist is no one knows who he is! This has fascinated people for years, and Banksy exhibitions have been traveling around the world as well.
The London Banksy art exhibition is amazing because it has some of Banksy’s most famous artwork on the walls, such as Girl with a Balloon and Flower Thrower. All of these artworks have been rented to the exhibition by private owners for this limited period of time, in this London independent art gallery.
So take your time and walk around this special art exhibition, maybe you will spot a clue to his identity? All of the artwork will make you think deeply about our world, politics, and the climate. This might not be one of the free exhibitions London has got going on right now, but it’s definitely worth every penny if you’re looking for art events in London that truly matter.

Best London Art Exhibitions: Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser
Did you read Alice in Wonderland when you were a child? Or maybe you watched the movie? This London art exhibition is so much fun for both adults and children. It explores the journey of Alice in Wonderland, from the first-ever written manuscript to the movies and artistic adaptions from the past 150 years. I feel like all the best art exhibitions London offers at the moment really are bound to make you think and reflect on life. That’s definitely what happens when you go to see the London art scene mixed with a dreamy Alice in Wonderland theme.
The best thing about this art exhibition is you will feel like Alice when she goes into the rabbit hole – there are huge life-size versions of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and the Queen of Hearts, you can plenty of artwork from the books, and the giant smiling Cheshire Cat. This is just a temporary art exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum London, which is also worth visiting for their permanent displays of beautiful statues and artwork that they have all year round. I personally love fashion art exhibitions London, and the fashion part of the V&A museum is one of my very favorite free exhibitions in the museum.

Lux at 180 Strand
There are many free art galleries in London, like the uber cool White Cube Gallery, which I feel is one of the best free non touristy galleries to visit in London. 180 Strand is another one of those buildings that don’t look the part. Yet, this is the museum to visit if you love contemporary art. They often have exciting exhibitions by new and emerging artists, and LUX is no different.
At this London art exhibition, 12 famous artists from across the world have created immersive exhibits and rooms which will combine virtual and physical art into one amazing artistic experience. Each of the exhibits uses different artistic mediums, such as technology, color, and your senses, to create an art exhibition that you have never seen before. The artists also work with artificial intelligence and illusions along the way. This is definitely the future of art you’ll experience when you visit this exhibition in London, and why not, after all?
