The possibility to get vegan cakes, brownies, and cupcakes with gluten free options in London is above and beyond anything we could have wished for a few years ago. I’ve written quite a bit about the best vegan restaurants in London here. Today, I felt that trying to select the best vegan bakery in London would also help you out in living vegan in London.
11 DECADENTLY Best Vegan Bakeries in London
Just to be clear, I am not vegan. However, I do try to lower my animal products consumption. Animal welfare for one, but mostly because of globalization, I’m not sure what’s on my plate anymore. That’s why I prefer to eat mostly veggies and fruit in my day-to-day life. I might not be vegan but I love cakes, and one of my vegan friends convinced me to try vegan patisserie in London more than once. She said vegan cakes are not only healthier for you but also healthier for the environment. So I did, and I absolutely loved it!
Today, I’m going to be talking about some very instagrammable vegan bakeries in London, with colorful cupcakes, decadent brownies in London, and even vegan birthday cakes. I understand that the wide variety of vegan bakery options in London can make it tricky to find the perfect one for you. Some even blend vegan and gluten free in their pastries and cakes. Even if you’re not vegan, I’m sure you’ll still be satisfied with these amazing sweet treats: they’re moist, gooey, and you can’t even tell that they’re vegan cakes.
Best Vegan Bakeries in London: Lola’s Cupcakes
First, on the list, we’re starting off strong. Lola’s Cupcakes is not a fully vegan bakery in London, but the vegan cupcake selection is outstanding. They have quite a few locations in London that include Neal Street in Covent Garden, London Bridge, or Canary Wharf.
With Lola’s Cupcakes, you can get a taste of the most delicious vegan cupcakes in London. I meant to take pictures of the cupcake I bought to post on my Instagram, but I devoured it so quickly that I left no evidence. I tried the vegan Red Velvet cupcake, and the cream and cake were so fresh and delicious… They perfectly went together.
Here you will get a great selection of vegan cakes and cupcakes with a wide range of flavors and decorations. The Lola’s Cupcakes treats are perfect for a quick dessert or a thoughtful gift to a friend or family member. I’ve also seen people ordering Halloween cupcakes from this bakery, which are very well made and look extremely mouth-watering too!
Some of their most famous vegan cupcakes include the vegan Red Velvet I tried. Then, you also have vegan lemon and raspberry, vegan fudge, and vegan pistachio. There are many more options for their vegan cupcakes, and they even make vegan cakes to order. If you’re looking for a gluten free vegan birthday cake, for instance, that’s a place you should look at. The staff here are super friendly and always serve with a smile. And they also have numerous other vegan options made without eggs and other allergens. If you’re nearby, definitely pay this lovely shop a visit.
Gluten-Free & Vegan Bakeries in London: Cookies and Scream
While I was living in Seven Sisters and going to work at the Islington Central Library, I would pass by Cookies and Scream all the time. That’s really a hidden gem in London, and probably the best bakery in London if you’re looking for vegan, gluten free, and free from cakes. But don’t want to lose the flavor and the overall amazing moist texture that we love to find in cakes, cookies, and cupcakes.
If you’re looking for good quality gluten free treats, Cookies and Scream is the place for you. This bakery tucked away in North London is one of the best vegan gluten free bakeries in London. You can reach it easily by Tube, though. Plus, there are lots of amazing charity shops in London located around Holloway Road. As such, I’d definitely recommend getting a breakie there or a snack before going charity shopping. Or before going to one of the most aesthetic places in London to work or study to cram for your exams.
The cakes here are to die for with great portions and a fantastic selection to choose from. Everything is gluten free and freshly baked. The menu changes every day, but some popular firms are always available with excellent value. The milkshakes are fantastic. And for someone who’s not even vegan, I must say I was very impressed by how good their vegan cookies were. And I know I’ve written about places for the best vegan cookies in London a while back, but Cookies and Scream deserves a second highlight.
The seating area is small but lovely. You can bring some friends to sit and chat with while enjoying the best vegan and gluten free foods. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and they create such a comfortable and cozy atmosphere inside. If this place isn’t already on your to-do list, I strongly recommend it!
Cutter & Squidge: Best Vegan Brownies in London
Cutter & Squidge is a vegan bakery in London a bit too… underrated. Especially given how crazy instagrammable and delicious their cakes are. This all-natural London bakery is the perfect choice for a birthday cake or any type of cake for special occasions!
If you have Harry Potter fans among your kids, consider booking the Potion Room for a magical birthday experience. The area is small. Yet, there are brilliant decorations and an intimate atmosphere, perfect for a cozy get-together with family and friends. To be honest, any vegan bakery with a Harry Potter theme is the best bakery in London in my book. But that’s just me, being a whole ‘nother kind of Potterhead (I’m a Ravenclaw, by the way).
The vegan cakes at Cutter and Squidge are delicious and all beautifully presented. There’s afternoon tea served with delicious treats, and everything comes with a variety of unique flavors! Their menu is so diverse and suitable for all dietary requirements, such as vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free. I cannot recommend them enough if you’re looking for the best vegan bakeries in London!
Delicious Vegan Bakeries in London: Organic Livity
As a French girl splitting my time between London and Rome, I must admit to missing the pastry art from my homeland. We can be talking about the best vegan restaurants in London, the best vegan bakeries – or not, they almost always don’t seem to live up to my very French palate. So, the first time I saw that Organic Livity in London bakes the most beautiful French pastries, I was sold. I mean, Paris-Brest (pictured above) is one of my favorite pastries in the world. Followed by Tarte au citron meringue, and cheesecake.
The London vegan bakery Organic Livity offers a menu of 100% plant-based and gluten free cakes. Everything here is organic and freshly made. You can tell that there has been so much thought and passion put into every recipe, and the story behind every plate is super inspiring. So much admirable passion goes into the artwork that they’re selling as food, and I applaud them for it.
Not only do Organic Livity serve a massive range of fine vegan Patisserie, but they also offer afternoon teas, fine dining, and other different types of events and classes. It’s safe to safe that they’re best known for their gorgeous cake selections that are sugar and gluten free, and all their foods are handmade and dedicated to all diets and intolerances.
Best Vegan Bakeries in London: Vida Bakery
Vida Bakery is one of the very underrated vegan bakeries in London – and if you’re looking for gluten free cakes, that’s your spot. This quiet bakery offers a huge range of goods and sweets that are 100% vegan and gluten free, all beautifully served and presented. The bakery is on Brick Lane and very hard to miss because of its famous rainbow cake displays. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Brick Lane, but it’s one of my favorite places in London.
If you’d like to know about all the cool things to do in Brick Lane, I’ve written a whole piece for you where you’ll find street art and vintage shops that you just can’t miss in London. Word. The fact that Vida Bakery is located there just makes Brick Lane that much more inviting since they have to offer some of the best gluten free cakes I have ever tried in London.
The best days to visit would probably be during the weekend when they have more options to choose from. When I was last there, I decided to try the red velvet cupcake, which was incredibly scrumptious. I’m a definite sucker for Red Velvet, and I’ll eat it in any place I can find it. The atmosphere in the shop is lively and peaceful, and the people behind the counter are so lovely and kind. I was also told that the birthday cakes here are very well made, so I will definitely try one someday!
The Best Vegan Bakeries in London: Ruby’s of London
I’ve already written about Ruby’s of London since they’re one of the best vegan bakeries in London. For amazing vegan birthday cakes and cupcake delicacies, they give their all. And it shows. Ruby’s of London stays true to its name, without a doubt, a gem of the capital. Located at Greenwich Market, they specialize in wheat-free and gluten-free products and deliver across Greater London.

I was recommended by my vegan friends to try out the vegan cakes here, and I heard only good things about their wedding and birthday cake and cupcakes. I tried the carrot cake, and it was very delicious and moist. The staff are super helpful and will happily answer all of your questions about their products and even about the ingredients they use.
The hot chocolate here is one of the best ones I’ve ever had, so I will definitely come back one day. If you ever happen to go to Greenwich Market (one of the best markets in London), don’t hesitate to stop by Ruby’s of London and get yourself a nice treat!
Cupcakes and Shhht: Best Vegan Bakery London
Last but not least on this list is this wonderful vegan cafe and bakery options, with the coolest name I have ever heard: Cupcakes and Shhht! The foods here are so delicious and all are served with great care. The staff is super friendly and helpful, you can see they love working at this London bakery.
The place is far from spacious, so I wouldn’t suggest going in a large group, but there’s outdoor seating, which I think will be lovely on a visit with your friends when the weather gets warmer.
The staff is very kind and the indoor area is beautifully decorated. There are plenty of vegan as well as non-vegan options to choose from, all of great quality, especially the sweet treats. Their vegan brownies are to die for, so you must try them if you haven’t.
But that’s not what Cupcakes and Shhht focuses on; they actually specialize in vegan birthday cakes, wedding cakes, and you know – cakes for any occasion. And if you’re looking for a vegan celebration cake, this is one of those places that will meet and exceed all of your expectations.
Best Vegan Bakeries in London: Hummingbird Bakery
When looking for the best vegan bakeries in London, I don’t usually go for chains, if that makes any kind of sense. I like finding small, independent bakeries that make scrumptious vegan desserts in London – in their own way.
I’ve always been very big on supporting small businesses, mainly because I’ve been an independent and a freelancer myself for a long time. I know the difference it makes in someone else’s life when you visit a vegan bakery in London that’s the pursuit of a freelance baker’s dream.

But Hummingbird Bakery, huh. Some of the best vegan desserts in London are right about there. The first time I ever visited a Hummingbird Bakery was for my birthday, at their Spitalfields Bakery. They offer a mix of American cakes and smooth coffee, hot chocolate, and some delicious vegan cupcakes as well.
However, since it’s not one of them entirely vegan bakeries in London, Hummingbird only has a few vegan cakes – still, they’ve worked and reworked their best-selling recipes for vegan peeps and they’re absolutely scrumptious. As a red velvet cake lover through and through, I’d definitely urge you to try their vegan red velvet cake.
However, their vegan rainbow cake is also delicious – and was actually one of my first tries in terms of vegan desserts in London a few years back. The vegan cupcake selection is a bit larger, so there’s really all you need for a midweek sweet treat or a celebration.
The Best Vegan Bakeries in London: Kake Kwerk
I wanted to mention Kake Kwerk in this guide to the best vegan bakeries in London because, hello, small business alert! Located near Islington (where you can also find Fara, one of the best charity shops in London), Kake Kwerk was established as a response to health problems related to the use of animal products when it comes to inflammation and chronic pains.
Kake Kwerk’s founder actually went through those health issues, and through veganism found that a no-animal diet could help with improving her overall health. And that’s how one of the best vegan bakeries in London was born.
This one offers some of the most decadent vegan desserts ever, from cupcakes to cookies, birthday cakes, and all kinds of vegan treats that will make you salivate at first glance. That’s also the only one of the vegan bakeries in London I’ll mention, that operates through mail delivery.
Not only can you enjoy some of the most delicious cakes you’ll ever taste in the city, but founder Cheryl also has a subscription going on for Kake Kwerk that allows you to try a bit of everything regularly. Delicious recipes, and an amazing small business overall that you would do wrong to miss out on – and curbside pickup is possible too!
Best Vegan Bakeries in London: Lele’s
If you’re ever looking for vegan desserts in London, then Lele’s in Lower Clapton might very well be what you’re looking for. Why? Because aside from being one of the best vegan bakeries in London – and a delicious cafe, Lele’s has plenty of other dishes that span from scrumptious lunch to vegan afternoon tea.
Nowadays, lots of restaurants offer vegan afternoon tea in London, but Lele’s has this ‘outside-of-the-city’ atmosphere that makes the moment just that much better. When you know that Lele’s also supplies other vegan cafes and restaurants in London, that’s when you understand just how important this Hackney joint is to the entire city.
This is one of the vegan bakeries in London that also cater to people who need gluten-free food, so it’s really interesting to see how Lele’s has built its menu. Because, and I speak as a non-entirely-vegan person – all the food is delicious, and not only respectful of people but respectful of taste as well.
Vegan Bakeries in London: Crosstown Doughnuts Marylebone
The last of the best vegan bakeries in London is not actually entirely vegan. However, in terms of vegan donuts, Crosstown Doughnuts scores hard and to the point. I remember one of my first times visiting the city, and coming across Crosstown Doughnuts in Soho.
I was advised by the friend I was roaming the city with to try one of the vegan donuts, as she told me they were stunning – and she was right. If you’re looking for a ‘proper’ vegan bakery with birthday cakes, cupcakes, and all, that’s not the place.
But if you’re open-minded enough to consider Crosstown Doughnuts on your bucket list of vegan bakeries to visit in London, then you won’t repent. Lime and coconut will forever remain my favorite flavor when it comes to their vegan doughnuts – but they do have plenty of other vegan tastes as well.
There’s one completely vegan Crosstown Doughnuts in Marylebone, but all the shops have vegan donuts all around London. Plenty enough to try them as soon as you’ve got the chance with a chai latte or a hot chocolate. Plus, it’s located very close to the Wallace Collection Library, one of the best free study spaces in London, so you could kill two birds with one stone if you also need to work that day.
