10 Best Spots for Halal Sushi, Dumplings & Japanese Food in London

Let’s talk about halal sushi in London today, shall we? I know I’m always looking for the best halal Japanese restaurant near me when I’m out sightseeing in London. After all, Japanese food – and sushi in particular – is one of the easiest food options to find in London. There are plenty of Japanese restaurants, but finding a halal Japanese restaurant is trickier than it might seem.

Is sushi halal? Yes, it is, if you choose options with fish, like salmon, tuna, or seabass. But if you want to go further on the road of halal Japanese food, maybe you’re looking for chicken katsu or teriyaki. If you want to find all you can eat sushi in London, check out The London Local guide to the best halal buffet in London. You’ll find plenty of places to eat in and around London there.

Today, we’re onto the best sushi in London. If you’re looking for the very best halal Japanese restaurant in London, you’re exactly in the right place.

Halal Food in London

If you’re a lover of halal food, you might want to read these guides to delicious restaurants in London:

Okay, let’s get on to the best Japanese restaurants in London, with a fully halal – or at least partially halal sushi, dumplings, ramen, and chicken katsu menu!

10 Best Spots for Halal Sushi, Dumplings and Japanese Food in London

All you can eat sushi in London is a dream, and if you can find it in Canary Wharf halal restaurants with a view and everything, it seems to taste even more delicious. However, most halal all you can eat restaurants are located around London. That’s why most of the halal restaurants I’ll mention today are à la carte food spots.

That’s okay, they still offer the best sushi in London, and overall the best halal Japanese food. And that’s what we’re after. I’ve tried to focus only on halal ramen, sushi, gyoza and dumplings, teriyaki, and other Japanese specialties. However, some of these halal restaurants in Central London are Pan-Asian restaurants. That means they are a fusion of several different cuisines, and that can go from halal Chinese food to Korean, and even Peruvian if that’s a proper fusion spot.

In any case, whether we’re talking about halal restaurants in East London near Brick Lane, or right in the heart of Mayfair, you’ll see – I’ve selected only the best halal food in London. Brace yourself, you’re about to have some really romantic moments at those laidback and fancy halal restaurants!

Before we dive into this list, there used to be an excellent Japanese halal restaurant in Notting Hill, C&R Izakaya on Westbourne Grove. A perfect halal Japanese restaurant for whoever wants to take their other half on a romantic date, it’s now permanently closed. Don’t worry though, I’ve got lots of other halal sushi options here on The London Local today. By the way, if you love Japanese culture, I’ve written up a guide to the best Japanese shops in London for you and you might want to check it out for the best Japanese food, fashion, anime, and stationery stores around town.

Halal Ramen London: Ramo Ramen

I’ve mentioned Ramo Ramen on The London Local in my guide to the best halal restaurants in Camden Town and Camden Market. Ramo Ramen probably cooks up the best halal ramen in London, and that’s a fact. Easy, since it’s brought to us by the Maginhawa Group, all the meat at Ramo Ramen Kentish Town is halal.

Filipino-infused, and it makes sense since Maginhawa also owns other big names of Filipino food in London. That includes the famous Bintang restaurant which cooks amazing halal katsu chicken, or South American Guanabana, one of the best places to eat halal breakfast and brunch in London.

It’s really hard to find a completely halal Japanese ramen restaurant in London. Even if there are lots of Japanese restaurants, ramen is usually cooked with pork in the broth. That’s why coming across Ramo Ramen ticks off finding halal ramen in London off your list. After their first joint in Kentish Town, Ramo Ramen now has a halal restaurant in Soho as well. So that’s good if you’ve been looking for halal ramen in Central London.

Now you can just reach it kind of whenever you want. No halal sushi, but the whole menu is delicious, and Ramo Ramen is one of the best halal places to eat in London if you want your taste buds to dance. A set menu at £14 is available, with starter, main, dessert, and drink, and that’s one really nice deal when you’re looking to have lunch in Soho.

Halal Dumplings in London: Buddha Bar

When I talked about the Buddha Bar restaurant in Knightsbridge, I deemed it one of the most romantic halal restaurants in London. And I mean, since all the meat is halal except the duck in this 2016-established Pan-Asian restaurant, that couldn’t be truer. The first Buddha Bar restaurant in the world opened in Paris, and there are more than a dozen spots worldwide for their delicious sushi, grilled meat, and other Japanese and Chinese food options. Today, you can find Buddha Bar in Moscow, Prague, New York, Dubai, Caracas, and of course, London.

Before we talk about the great sushi and Japanese food, I think it’d be nice for you to know that there are halal steaks at Buddha Bar. So if you want halal wagyu beef, lamb, or chicken that day, you’ll be more than happy at this fancy halal restaurant. Tiger prawn tempura, spicy edamame, decadent sushi, and even halal Pad Thai feature on the Buddha Bar menu.

If you’ve been looking for a halal afternoon tea in London, by the way, Buddha Bar has both sweet and savory options. Those range from crispy black cod and mushroom wonton to a delish passionfruit and mango tart, and they’re something to try once in your life. Especially since there isn’t a plethora of restaurants with halal afternoon tea in London, innit.

Halal Steak in London: Novikov

Photo: Novikov

I’ve mentioned Novikov on The London Local before, judging the double offer of an Italian restaurant and Asian food spot quirky and cool. Good halal sushi in Mayfair is what Novikov offers, but there’s much more to that Asian restaurant. Halal Wagyu and sirloin at Novikov can definitely be deemed the best halal steaks in London, for starters. But on the menu, salmon teriyaki and halal wok dishes with honey and lime or sweet and sour chicken steal the spotlight.

Between us, finding real good halal duck in London is hard, and you know it, if you’ve been looking. There are quite a few restaurants now that offer halal duck, but the Peking Duck dishes at Novikov are a great surprise. They’re not the cheapest halal food options, that’s for sure. But they’re definitely worth every penny. The Novikov Duck salad, folks. A dish to try – I’d never tried duck salad, and it will blow your mind. This mix between a halal Chinese restaurant and Japanese food, with delish teppanyaki, crispy squid, and halal sushi makes for one of the best fine dining places in London.

Halal Japanese Food: Cafe Bar Necco

I can’t believe Japanese Cafe Bar Necco is so little talked about. Located on Exmouth Market, one of the cutest markets in London, Cafe Bar Necco has a quirky menu on which are indicated the chef’s recommendations. That’s such a fun way to interact with customers, and something I’ve never seen before in a halal Japanese restaurant in London, or anywhere else, for that matter.

Not everything is halal on the menu, actually, but you do have a few chicken options, like the Karaage crispy chicken (and we know just how much of a freak I am for halal fried chicken restaurants!), and the Chicken Teriyaki Don. That Donburi rice ball is excellent and perfect to enjoy in such a cute cafe in London, to be honest.

There are the usual sushi menus at this Farringdon restaurant, but that’s far from being all. Chirashi bowls, prawn tempura, dumplings, seaweed salad – all the classics are cooked by Japanese Cafe Bar Necco to perfection. But, wait: halal udon in London? Have you ever heard of such a thing? Because I never had, before Cafe Bar Necco. Their halal udon bowls are served with the Japanese staple noodles, and married with prawns, and even aubergines or fried been curd for vegans and Muslims. Other udon bowls with beef are not halal, so let’s leave that on the side.

So yes, if you’ve ever been looking for halal or vegan udon in London, bim bam boom – Japanese Cafe Bar Necco. Anyway, I’ve always loved the Exmouth Market area, which really is as cute as other posh areas in London like Chelsea, Hampstead Heath park, or even Knightsbridge shopping places. And of course, vegan sushi is also available there.

A really cute Japanese place where you’ll have a food experience unlike any other. A lunch set menu at £9.50 at a halal Japanese restaurant? I don’t think we can do cheap Japanese food in London as well as the Japanese Cafe Bar Necco. Maybe not totally halal, but definitely worth the trip for all the great sushi they serve. How about visiting some amazing Japanese stores after lunch, while you’re at it?

Halal Japanese Restaurant London: Cocochan

Cocochan on James Street is one of the best halal restaurants in Central London, and it’s not just due to the fact that it offers halal sushi. For business meetings and fancy dates, it’s the perfect Pan-Asian place to visit. The mix of Thai food, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian cuisines combines and pops up as delicious delicacies. No wonder why Cocochan has been awarded an AA Rosette and a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. Halal sushi and halal dumplings? Yes please!

If you’re looking for places where you can host private dining parties, Cocochan Marylebone is it. Everything on the menu is halal, if not for the duck. But wait, that’s pretty amazing for a fancy halal restaurant, innit? A romantic date for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary – Cocochan is the perfect background, with delicious halal Chinese food, and a mix of Japanese sushi right off Bond Street.

Ah, and some halal Korean dishes are available at Cocochan, with delicious Asian influences. So now, all you have to do is figure out whether you want to eat halal dim sum, sushi, or halal Chinese food. Good luck with that. In any case, if you’ve been looking for fancy halal restaurants with outdoor seating in London, Cocochan has a very cute terrace too. So there’s that.

Halal Japanese in London Soho: Chotto Matte

Now, if you’re looking for a Japanese halal restaurant in Soho, Chotto Matte is made for you. Lots of halal sushi options, and all the Japanese food you would find in any Japanese restaurant in London. Yet, this elegant and sophisticated joint has a little quirk: it’s a proper Japanese and Peruvian fusion food place. It can easily be reached from the Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, and Leicester Square stations. It’s really cool to know that we have an interesting halal restaurant in Soho, especially when it plays so well the modern and traditional Japanese food chords.

The Nikkei cuisine served at Chotto Matte is delicious, and that’s a fact. That’s definitely a restaurant in the West End where you can go with friends after work. It doubles as a colorful and fancy halal restaurant that would be a perfect background for a first date. All the meat served at this restaurant in Soho is halal, so you can eat your fill of delicious sushi, and fresh fish-based dishes.

The best sushi and halal steak in Central London? Maybe so, especially if you get Roboto Grill dishes. I’m talking slow-cooked BBQ beef, grilled chicken, beef fillet, and even octopus, for the most adventurous. The star of the show being the halal Wagyu steak, and, OMG, the halal dumplings…! Delish.

Halal Sushi in London: Sushi Bar Brick Lane

Sushi Bar Brick Lane is one of the most famous halal restaurants in East London. Wanna know why? Because it shares a local with Band of Burgers, literally one of the best burger restaurants in London – and completely halal at that. Located on Osborne Street, it is easily accessible from Shoreditch High Street and Aldgate East stations.

Plenty of very popular Japanese dishes like Uramaki, Nigiri, Teriyaki, and crispy chicken katsu are available to order at Sushi Bar Brick Lane. If you’re a real Japanese food lover, the fact that you can eat delicious bento box dishes is also very appreciated. Everything on the Sushi Bar menu is halal, and I think those are probably the best halal sushi in London.

Getting really cheap halal food in London is cool, but when the food is fresh and self-sufficient, I’m over the moon. If you live in London, you know that affordable halal sushi is hard to come by, innit. So if you’ve got the chance, and would like a nice little halal restaurant for a date, Sushi Bar is it. Doesn’t break the bank, but does exceed expectations.

Halal Japanese Food in London: Mitsuryu Hampstead

Looking for a halal restaurant in Hampstead? Not the easiest thing to do, right? Well, halal Japanese Mitsuryu will most certainly convince you at first bite. From the first moment you enter this classy halal restaurant, you’ll be happy you’ve booked there. With another branch in Wembley Boxpark, Mitsuryu has charmed Londoners with classic Japanese food.

That’s where you’ll find Katsu Curry, traditional sushi, bento boxes, and teriyaki. Tuna and beef tataki, premium sashimi, and, ugh, takoyaki? Takoyaki is one of my favorite Japanese food dishes, and being able to get it in London just brings me to seventh heaven.

The concept is easy in this Japanese restaurant: there are options for everyone, from vegan sushi to halal meats. The menu is even carefully crafted for every budget, so if you’re a student, a freelancer, or a well-established couple, you’ll find something. Halal restaurants in Wembley Park and Hampstead can’t possibly get any better, especially since there’s no pork on the menu either. An affordable halal restaurant in London to hang out with friends after visiting the London Designer Outlet, maybe?

Hala Sushi in London: Sushi Masago

No but wait, halal chicken katsu sushi in London? And halal dumplings? And a fully halal menu? That’s too much for my lil’ heart, and yet, Sushi Masago has done it. Located in Aldgate, near Bethnal Green and Brick Lane, Sushi Masago is one of the freshest Japanese restaurants in London.

Their delicious halal gyoza are made with meaty duck, chicken, prawns, and they even have a pumpkin vegan gyoza, so there’s that. The Cannon Street restaurant offers the whole Japanese deal. You’ve got bento boxes, maki, uramaki, and lots of other delicious Japanese food. That’s not a restaurant for all you can eat sushi in London, but for sure, that’s one of the most affordable.

Just get out of Central London for a bit, and when you’re visiting Brick Lane, you can grab lunch there. Once again, their halal dumplings? A dream. I’ve always thought that halal restaurants in East London are some of the best because they’re super laidback and friendly. And Sushi Masago is the proof.

Halal Dumplings in London: Rainbo Food Canary Wharf

I know lots of you are looking for halal restaurants in Canary Wharf. That’s understandable, given the high end dining experience you have when you visit Canary Wharf restaurants. Rainbo is a quirky little street food spot, and before we go any further, it’s not fully halal. Only the chicken is halal there, and there’s pork on the menu. So, it’s up to you to decide whether you want to visit this Japanese restaurant. What you could do is visit the secret rooftop garden at Crossrail Place, and then head on over to Rainbo.

Rainbo Canary Wharf is a real homage to Japanese street food as you’d find it in Tokyo or Osaka. They have delicious halal dumplings, halal katsu chicken, and, and – Japanese halal fried chicken! And that’s a blast. The 2012-established Rainbo at Kitchen Wharf is the best Japanese restaurant in Canary Wharf. Especially when it comes to their halal dumplings (or gyoza, as they go by their real name). No sushi there, but definitely the best Japanese street food in London.

So, here you have it, my list of the best halal Japanese restaurant spots in London. Nice and easy, with only the best sushi in London. Of course, what would a romantic date be if the service didn’t follow? All those spots, from halal fancy restaurants to relaxed food spots, are big on both flavor and customer service. That’s why I’ve selected them, because just eating halal sushi near me is never enough.

I want more, I want exceptional service, and I want to leave the restaurant feeling like it was the best dining experience in London I’ve ever had.

But you know, there are so many more halal restaurants in London. It would be really difficult to list them all in just one halal guide on The London Local. I talk about a bit of everything, given that I’m the biggest foodie you’ll ever meet in your life. If you are too, welcome to the club.

So if you love halal Korean food, or have been looking for a halal duck in London forever, you know I’ve covered that here. All you need to do is bite into the best halal burgers in Leicester Square restaurants, and trust places that know how to cook halal grilled meat to perfection.
